The village of Newark recently received two major grant awards from the New York State Department of Transportation under their 2016 BridgeNY program.
Newark received $550,000 to reconstruct a failing culvert on state Route 31 in conjunction with a scheduled project by the state to rehabilitate the road in the heart of the village. Over 30,000 vehicles pass over this structure daily.
The village also received $404,000 to assist in rehabilitating the East Avenue Bridge over the Erie Canal, which provides a necessary connection to two major employers not only in Newark, but in Wayne County. All load limitation will be removed once this project is completed.
