AVOCA — More than 100 puppies were rescued after the box van they were traveling in overturned, State Police in Bath say.
The crash happened Wednesday on Interstate 86 in the Town of Avoca, Steuben County. State Police say the driver, Emily Woodrum of Missouri was delivering the puppies to local pet stories. They say she was speeding in the passing lane and lost control. The box van went off the road, struck a ditch and overturned.
Troopers Mark Bernard, Jordan Sheehan and Pete Peters helped remove all of the puppies from the box van, with assistance from T and R Towing.
Five of the puppies sustained minor injuries and were quickly treated by the Steuben County SPCA, according to State Police.
The SPCA's website says it's caring for "a large number of puppies" from the accident. The puppies are expected to be returned to their out-of-state owner.
