The American Red Cross will host a blood drive in memory of Gregory Harrison from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 28 at Northridge Church, 2052 St. Paul St., Rochester.

Harrison, 11, died from complications surrounding a bone marrow transplant and leukemia in 2003. His parents, Mark and Debbie Harrison, have hosted an annual blood drive since 2005 to honor his Jan. 20 birthday.

The blood drive is one of the largest drives in the American Red Cross Blood Services Rochester District with 1,510 units of blood to date, saving up to 4,530 lives.

The Red Cross has issued an emergency call for donors during its severe blood shortage. Blood products are currently being distributed to hospitals faster than donations are coming in.
