Newark graduate receives Rotary scholarship
Courtney Caralla, a 2016 Newark High School graduate, recently received the $1,400 Charles Baldwin Rotary Service Scholarship at a recent Newark Rotary Club meeting.
Caralla is a freshman early childhood education major at Keuka College. She is involved in several service-oriented clubs, such as Rotaract. She was recognized for her extensive volunteer work while in high school.
The award is named after Charles Baldwin, who was secretary of Newark Rotary Club for most of his over 50 years of club membership.
Sodus student receives Alfred State scholarship
Anjill Lee Burr, of Sodus, recently earned an $18,160 All-American Scholarship to attend Alfred State.
Burr, who intends to enroll in the health sciences program, is slated to graduate this year from Sodus Central School.
The scholarship is awarded to students who possess a minimum 89 cumulative high school average through their junior year and who have achieved at least a 1220 combined reading/writing and math new SAT or a composite ACT score of 24. Recipients must maintain a required GPA to continue to receive free board in subsequent semesters.
Ontario soldier starts military career
Pfc. Cameron Crisafulli, of Ontario, recently started his military career with the New York Army National Guard during a battle handoff ceremony at the Patriot Way Armory in Rochester.
Crisafulli was formally welcomed into the Troop A, 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry, Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition during the transition ceremony.
The ceremony marked Crisafulli’s completion of the National Guard Recruit Sustainment program, which provides new recruits with training, lessons and skills to excel at their military training.
