The Palmyra Historic Preservation Commission will present “Slaves in the Belfry” at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 at Western Presbyterian Church, 101 E. Main St., Palmyra.
Member and historian Betsy Lewis will offer insight into the abolitionist tendencies of the Rev. Horace Eaton, the church’s longest serving pastor from 1849 to 1879.
Lewis first became interested in Eaton after finding documents and abolitionist attributions in church histories and the book “Memorial of Horace Eaton, DD,” which was written by his wife, Anna Eaton, in 1885.
