The Women’s Council, a Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce affiliate, has issued a call for nominations for its 17th annual Young Women of Distinction Award.
The scholarship program supports the belief that young women with promise today will become tomorrow’s leaders. The nomination deadline is March 15.
Modeled after the Athena Award, the YWOD Award nurtures the next generation of leaders while enabling companies and organizations in the community to grow and prosper. The program is designed to discover and celebrate young women who have displayed outstanding leadership, academic excellence and involvement in the community.
The program is open to all girls in their senior year of high school from the nine-county Rochester region: Monroe, Ontario, Livingston, Wayne, Orleans, Genesee, Seneca, Wyoming and Yates.
Four top recipients will be selected from a group of 20 finalists — one each from Rochester City School District, a school district east of the city of Rochester, a school district west of the city of Rochester and a school district located outside of Monroe County. These recipients will receive a $2,000 college scholarship and a paid summer internship at an area company.
The Women’s Council has partnered with Entercom Radio’s 98PXY as its exclusive radio sponsor to further promote the scholarship program across the Greater Rochester region. All 20 finalists will attend this year’s 98PXY Summer Jam this June as guests of #TeamPXY. The Women’s Council will have the opportunity to recommend finalists for consideration as future student interns and/or paid promotion team members at station events.
