Wayne County Clerk Mike Jankowski recently submitted the 2016 annual report to the Wayne County board of supervisors.
2016’s accomplishments included a surplus revenue of $793,868 being returned to the county, Jankowski being named County Clerk of the Year by the County Clerks Association and the consolidation of the Office of the County Historian and the County Records Center.
The county treasurer collected and deposited $1,911,341.15 in total revenue for 2016 through mortgage taxes, retention fees, interest, the general account and title company charges. Motor vehicle revenues were $413,253.21, down from $425,590.28 in 2015. The total expenditures for 2016 were $1,117,473.26, creating a $793,867.69 surplus.
Amounts not retained by the county were distributed to the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Tax and Finance and other state agencies. The amounts were also forwarded to town for mortgage tax, the U.S. Passport Agency and the Rochester-Genesee Regional Transportation Authority.
The county handled a total of $9,830,402,28 in 2016.
State and local law mandate majority of the clerk’s duties, which include maintaining county records. Majority of the records relate to property and the County and Supreme courts.
The county clerk serves as the local agent for the state commissioner of motor vehicles, as an acceptance agent for U.S. passports, as county records management officer and supervisor for the historian’s department.
