Silver Sneakers and Silver and Fit classes at Palmyra Community Center recently enjoyed a Mardi Gras celebration.
The party was hosted by instructor Alice Daskiewich and committee members Suzanne Caffyn, Karen Desens, Georgia Learn and Steve Staples.
Staples and Betty Sykes were crowned king and queen of the celebration. Their first task was to lead the classes’ 22 members in a parade while listening to Louisiana-style music, including “When the Saints Go Marching In,” to set the tone for games incorporating exercise moves.
Attendees wore masquerade masks, beads, feathers and boas for the Mardi Gras party. Photographers made sure to document the event.
The part committee decorated the facility in Mardi Gras colors — purple, green and gold — with tablecloths, napkins, candle votives, beads and balloons. Food included jambalaya, gumbo, black bean salad, red beans and rice, cornbread, king cake with a baby trinket baked inside and punch.
