Wayne County sheriff's deputies arrested a Level 2 sex offender from Wayne County who was attempting to lure teen into sending him nude photos online.

WOLCOTT — A sex offender from Wayne County was arrested Thursday following an investigation into the activities of an alleged online predator who is accused of attempting to get a 14-year-old female to send him nude photographs.

Wayne County sheriff’s deputies charged Jacob M. Ritchie, 31, with failure to change/update his status with the New York State Sex Offender Registry, a class E felony; and resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor.

Cyber Crime investigators and members of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office allegedly determined that Ritchie was using the screen name of “Meet24” to lure the teen, which traced back to an email address he has listed with the Sex Offender Registry, deputies said.

When investigators and deputies went to apprehend Ritchie, he allegedly attempted to run away and is then accused of fighting with an investigator, deputies said.

According to deputies, Ritchie, a Level 2 sex offender, is designated as a sexually violent offender — a classification that came about after he was convicted of rape and aggravated sexual assault in September 2012.

For his latest crimes, Ritchie has since posted bail and was released until his next court appearance, which is scheduled at 5 p.m. April 6, in Wolcott Village Court.

The investigation is ongoing, deputies said.
