Gananda High School Drama Club will perform “Once on this Island” at 7:30 p.m. March 24-25 and 2 p.m. March 25 at Ruben A. Cirillo High School, 3195 Wiedrick Road, Walworth.
The Caribbean-style musical tells the tale of small peasant girl Ti Moune and her journey to prove love is stronger than hate. After rescuing a well-to-do boy named Daniel Beauxhomme, Ti Moune falls in love with him but quickly realizes they are from different worlds. Gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a journey that will test her strength of love against prejudice and hate. The play is an original adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid.”
The cast, crew and orchestra include 38 students to make the production possible. Cast highlights include Gananda junior Alizabeth York as Ti Moune and freshman Dominic Petrucci as Daniel Beauxhomme.
Gananda seniors include Evan Donaldson, Tom Keenan, Jacob Leberth, Erin Morgan, Alina Mueller, Elijah Munoz, Katie Poulsen, Katie Riethmeier, Nate Rothwell, Jadyn Seelig, Jared Skrotzki, Sara Stoner and Matthew Szlucha.
Tickets cost $10 general admission and $8 for seniors and students. Advanced tickets cost $9 and are available online and at the Susan H. Alexander Performing Arts Center Box Office at the high school.
