Wayne County sheriff's deputies charged Ava P. McGinnis, 21, of Sodus, with driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.

LYONS — A Wayne County woman is accused of breaking a series of laws after she and a couple of her friends were approached by police for allegedly flicking lit cigarettes toward the pumps at a Lyons gas station.

On April 2, Wayne County sheriff’s deputies charged Ava P. McGinnis, 21, of West Main Street, Sodus, with driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana. 

McGinnis allegedly arrived at the Lyons Kwik Fill on Forgham Street, driving a vehicle that reportedly had a flat tire, deputies said. Police were called to the scene only after the 21-year-old driver and her friends allegedly began flicking the cigarettes at the pumps.

McGinnis was arraigned in Galen Town Court and released on her own recognizance.
