Gillie Schmerl, of Rochester, recently participated in UDance, a 12-hour dance marathon, at University of Delaware. The student-run philanthropy benefits the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation based in Wilmington, Delaware.

Brynn Lauer, of Newark, was recently accepted into the Take Five Scholars program at University of Rochester. The senior chemical engineering major will do coursework on the theme “Religion in Societal Views on Gender and Sexuality.” The program enables undergraduate students to enroll for a fifth year of study tuition-free.

Daniel Ortiz, of Ontario; Michelle Magee, of Marion; Jennifer Dennie, of Macedon; and Amanda Knapp, of Newark, recently helped Medaille College earn five Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Team Peak Performer awards, the most in the conference. The awards honor teams with the highest cumulative team GPA in the conference.

Emily Blaakman, of Ontario, recently received the SUNY Oneonta 2016-17 Susan Sutton Smith Award for academic excellence. To be eligible, a freshman, sophomore or junior must earn a minimum 3.9 GPA. Blaakman, a mathematics and statistics major, received a certificate, gift card to the campus bookstore and an invitation to attend the annual Susan Sutton Smith Lecture as Florian Reyda presents “Parasites, Evolution and Us.”
