Park Presbyterian Church, 110 Maple Court, Newark, will host the Mabel Hommer Memorial Newark Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty Hunger Walk at 8:30 a.m. May 6.
The event hopes to raise $6,500 to help stop hunger and poverty in Newark and around the world through self-help initiatives. A portion of proceeds will support local agencies such as the free lunch program, Home Meal Service, Newark Food Closet and Blessings in a Backpack. The event raised $6,200 in 2016.
Newark and 1,500 communities across the country will host Crop Hunger walks with the theme “Ending Hunger One Step at a Time.” Those interested can walk 1, 3 or 6 miles or sponsor a walker to show support for local food pantries, food banks and meal sites.
The events impact individuals and families in more than 30 countries, especially nations where people walk up to 6 miles each day for food and water.
