Floating debris such as tree limbs and logs in Canandaigua Lake has prompted the Ontario and Yates County Sheriff’s Offices to urge boaters to observe caution.
Boaters are urged to operate their vessels at no more than 5 mph within 200 feet of shore on the lake. Boaters also are urged to observe reduced speeds on Honeoye Lake because of the possibility of floating debris below the lake’s surface.
With the danger posed by debris, boaters are also urged to wear personal flotation devices at all times.
Estimated water temperature is 37 degrees. Hypothermia may quickly occur after only a short period of time of being in the lake water.
