New York State Canal Corp. and Parks and Trails of NY recently organized the annual Canal Clean Sweep as part of Earth Day.
Lock 30-Butterfly Nature Trail volunteers joined volunteers along the Erie Canal. This year marks the bicentennial for the start of the canal’s construction. Lock 30-Butterfly Nature Trail volunteers, formerly known as Macedon Village Pride, helped organize this event.
Twenty volunteers from Monroe, Ontario and Wayne counties helped to clean Canal Park Lock 30 in Macedon. After the event, the volunteers enjoyed an afternoon with food, drinks, kites and s’mores.
Volunteers included Finger Lakes representatives from the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities; Lock 30-Butterfly Nature Trail volunteers; Rose, of Ontario; Rob, of Penfield; Jeff, chief lock operator; and Lock 60 volunteers.
