The Canandaigua VA Medical Center is now participating in the Rochester region’s health information exchange. That means veterans receiving care from both the VA and community providers can have their medical information shared among all their providers through a secure network.

The system is through Rochester RHIO (Regional Health Information Organization). The process is called the community Health Information Exchange (HIE).

“RHIO services support better patient care for the region’s veterans by connecting VA providers to Rochester RHIO services, which span 13 counties,” according to a release.

With patient consent, providers can view secure data and clinicians will have access to a more comprehensive patient health record. This is an advantage for patients with multiple providers because it makes for better coordinated care.
