United Way of Wayne County recently held its annual Day of Caring, which has helped local nonprofit agencies for more than 20 years.
“I give thanks to all of the individuals volunteering for this year’s Day of Caring, the employers who graciously allow their staff to participate and the corporate sponsors who help make the day a success,” said Phil McCann, board president. “I am very happy and thankful to note United Way of Wayne County is at 97 percent of its campaign goal due to the fantastic community support from many individuals and businesses again this year.”
Day of Caring teams headed out to their assigned projects after a breakfast rally in Newark, donating approximately 850 volunteer hours.
Seven businesses were recognized with a Leading the Way Award: Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, Garlock Sealing Technologies and Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Platinum Award; Marshall Farms and Berry Plastics, Gold Award; Seneca Foods, Silver Award; and Kreher’s Eggs, Bronze Award.
Ten businesses received recognition based on employee participation during the campaign: Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, Catholic Charities of Wayne County, Victim Resource Center, Tops Market of Ontario and VanParys Associates, Award of Excellence; Reliant Community Credit Union, Loyal Donor Award; Lyons National Bank, Volunteer Award; Tops Market of Walworth, Certificate of Achievement; and Dr Pepper Snapple Group and Wayne Pre-Trial Services, Certificate of Appreciation.
