Exelon Generation operators recently returned R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant to full power after completing a scheduled refueling outage in April.
“The refueling outage would not have happened without the Clean Energy Standard,” Ontario Town Supervisor John Smith said. “The CES allows the state to reap the rewards of nuclear plants that are reliable producers of carbon-free energy and key drivers of jobs and economic growth.”
More than 900 additional workers joined Ginna employees to complete the refueling outage. Technicians replaced one-third of the reactor’s fuel and performed 5,000 inspections, tests, maintenance activities and modifications.
“The work done over the past several weeks supports our ability to provide safe, reliable, emissions-free power to New York energy consumers for another 18-month cycle,” said Bill Carsky, site vice president.
