Wayne County Dairy Princess Natalie Vernon recently visited the first baby born in National Dairy Month at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
On behalf of the local dairy industry, Vernon surprised the baby and her family with a basket of dairy-themed gifts.
“Drinking milk and eating other dairy foods makes it easy for kids to get the bone-building calcium and other nutrients their growing bodies need,” Vernon said.
Dutchess Marilyn Rashae Barr, the daughter of Lakisha Carithers and Blake Barr, was born June 1 at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
The Dairy Princess program in New York state promotes the dairy industry and is funded by local dairy farmers and American Dairy Association and Dairy Council.
