The free community event will include personal stories and practical information.
A brief introduction to suicide prevention and discussion will take place June 20, at 7 p.m. at Inn on the Lake. The free community event will present warning signs and risk factors and ways to prevent suicide.
Karen Heisig from the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention will give a brief introduction to suicide prevention and talk about warning signs and what a person should do to help someone in danger. Also speaking will be Hobart and William Smith Colleges student, Dianna Paige, a mental health advocate talking about her own experience.
The program will be hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Canandaigua resident Donna Besler. Besler’s son, Brennan, who was born June 20, 1995, took his own life in 2014, at age 19. Besler will talk about losing her son to suicide and what she learned that can help others.
The program will be in the Ballroom at Inn on the Lake, 770 S. Main St., Canandaigua.
