Booklets for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition program will be distributed to eligible seniors July 10-21.
The program is sponsored by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, NYS Department of Health, NYS Office for the Aging, Cornell Cooperative Extension and U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Services to give low-income senior citizens the opportunity to improve their nutritional health by increasing their consumption of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables.
Each booklet contains five $4 coupons. Booklets are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis to age- and income-eligible seniors.
Seniors are urged to get their coupon books as soon as possible, since they could run out before all sites are visited.
Seniors must qualify in one of two following categories to receive a booklet: those ages 60 or older who are at a gross monthly income at or below $1,860 per month for a one-person household, $2,504 per month for a two-person household or $3,149 per month for a three-person household; and/or those ages 60 or older who are currently receiving or eligible to receive supplemental security income, Home Energy Assistance program, public assistance or a Section 8 housing subsidy.
Income levels increase by $645 per month based on the number of persons in the applicant’s household.
Each eligible senior in a household can receive a coupon booklet. Each senior must sign for their own coupon booklet. Power of attorneys can sign for a coupon booklet with proof of POA.
