Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Alice Paul and other suffragist actors recently visited the H.G. Hotchkiss Peppermint Museum in Lyons through Votetilla, a fleet of boats traveling the Erie Canal from Seneca Falls to Rochester.
The suffragists celebrated the 100th year of women’s right to vote in New York state by stopping by the museum to take tours and meet canal musician Dave Ruch, of Humanities New York.
Attendees included visitors from Susan B. Anthony House in Rochester and National Park for Women’s Rights in Seneca Falls.
Lyons Heritage Society staff entertained the guests with stories about the peppermint factory.
Guests included Assemblyman Bob Oaks, R-130th District, and John Callaghan, deputy director of the Erie Canal, on behalf of Gov. Andrew Cuomo. A special citation of the bicentennial of the Erie Canal and a letter of thanks from Cuomo was sent to LHS for hosting Votetilla.
