Family Promise of Wayne County will hold an organizational and informational meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at Park Presbyterian Church, 110 Maple Court, Newark.
Meetings are held bimonthly, and are open to anyone in the county wishing to learn more about this local initiative to help and support homeless families in Wayne County move from homelessness to sustainable independence.
Family Promise of Wayne County is a nonprofit, interfaith organization with an active board. Volunteers from churches within Wayne County are coordinating efforts to bring communities, congregations and other groups together to provide hospitality, including overnight stays, meals and support services to homeless families.
Each informational meeting features an organization or agency which support Family Promise’s efforts. The Aug. 28 meeting will host Maggie McHugh, of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wayne County, as she provides information about Finger Lakes Eat Smart New York, which aims to improve health and reduce chronic disease for low-income adults and youth.
Bill Bush, board president, will provide an update on the progress being made toward an opening date of early 2018. Each committee chairman will share information and invite others to become engaged and active in the work of Family Promise.
