The 35th annual Community Lumberjack Festival is scheduled for Sept. 9-10 at Macedon Center Fireman’s Field, 2481 Canandaigua Road, Macedon.
Gates will open at 8 a.m. both days. The Sept. 9 amateur competition will start at 9 a.m. with events including log rolling, two-man crosscut, bucksaw, chainsaw, log chop and fire starting.
Local lumberjacks are encouraged to participate. Equipment and safety gear will be provided, and professionals will be on-site to offer advice on how to improve technique or start the sport.
Organizers have introduced a new event this year — tug of war. For team information, call 315-986-4680.
The Sept. 10 competition will feature professionals from the U.S. and Canada, including local lumberjacks Dave Jewitt and Paul Pfenniger. The contest will start at 10 a.m. with ax throwing, hot saw, two man crosscut and springboard events. The contest is one of the highest paying competitions in the northeast.
Attendees can shop at a craft and collectibles sale. Commercial exhibitors include portable band saws, wood carvers, landscaping equipment and fireplaces. To be a vendor, call 585-749-6538 or 585-217-7177 for commercial exhibitors.
Children will enjoy pony rides and a petting zoo.
Food will be available all day, including ice cream and dessert. The lumberjack breakfast will feature pancakes with maple syrup, eggs, sausage, home fries, juice and coffee from 7 to 11 a.m. Sept. 9 and 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 19.
Church services will be held at 5 p.m. Sept. 9 and 9:30 a.m. Sept. 10.
Raffle prizes include a chainsaw, wood carving by Jewett, vehicle remote start, string trimmer and gift cards. Winners will be announced Sept. 10.
Admission costs $3 for adults, $2 for senior citizens, $1 for ages 6-14 and free for ages 5 and younger. Parking is free and handicapped-accessible.
