Wayne County Council for the Arts, 108 W. Miller St., Newark, will open its annual regional photography exhibit, “Art Through the Lens,” on Sept. 14.
The judged show is open to all photographers and artists submitting photography. This year’s show will feature three categories: traditional photography, digitally enhanced and vintage and alternative printing processes.
Phil Hilden, of Victor, will serve as juror for the show. He is an award-winning photographer of landscapes and portraits, and has sold his images to the calendar and greeting card markets since 1985. Over 70,000 of his images sell as greeting cards annually in the U.S.
His work has been featured in local and national ad campaigns, books, brochures, magazines articles and music CDs. Hilden is responsible for photographing all the artwork and antiques at Finger Lakes Gallery and Frame in Canandaigua.
The Chris Fayad Members Gallery will display an exhibit by Robert Henry, who specializes in nature photography of wildlife and landscapes.
His images are printed on cotton canvas with the intention of embedding the viewer into the scene. This process absorbs the lighting and color of the image, and does not reflect ambient lighting off the image.
Henry photographs the daily cycles of light when composing his images. He also prepares for the weather and storm fronts through the different seasons.
A free opening reception is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 16. Gallery hours are from noon to 3 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, or by appointment.
