Newark soldier joins New York Army National Guard unit
Pvt. Avery Bueso, of Newark, recently joined the Headquarters Service Company, 642nd Battalion in the New York Army National Guard during a transition ceremony at Patriot Way Armory in Rochester.
Bueso completed army basic combat training and advanced individual training before being welcomed into the unit.
The ceremony marked Bueso’s completion of the National Guard Recruit Sustainment program, which provides recruits with training, lessons and skills to excel at initial military training.
Gananda graduate receives math honor society scholarship
Emerson Pero, a graduate of Gananda Central School District, recently received the New York State Mathematics Honor Society Scholarship.
Only four $500 scholarships are awarded throughout the state. Pero studies in the pharmacy program at St. John Fisher College in Rochester.
The honor society’s Gananda chapter is open to students who maintain a minimum 90 math GPA and overall GPA. To qualify, students must be taking or have taken Algebra II, complete an application, submit a letter of recommendation, write an essay on an approved math topic and be accepted into the society. Members have a weekly tutoring service commitment.
Walworth resident joins HR Works
Greg Martino, of Walworth, recently joined HR Works Inc. as an affirmative action data analyst.
Martino holds a dual bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from Hartwick College in Oneonta.
