Wife and husband take first and second place in the annual World's Greatest Grape Pie Contest
Quick poll: Nobody recalled a Naples Grape Festival as hot as this one, with temperatures reaching above 90 degrees both days for the weekend event. But it didn't deter crowds from flooding the village of Naples for hot deals and more at the annual festival established in 1961.
The event wraps up at 5 p.m. today.
Sponsored by the Naples Rotary Club, the festival celebrates the area’s grape harvest, artisans, winemakers, local and regional music and cuisine. The event is known for its juried art show and the World’s Greatest Grape Pie contest.
For the second year in a row the winner of the World’s Greatest Grape Pie Contest was Meghanne Ash Freivald of Canadice. Placing second was Meghanne’s husband, Patrick Freivald. Taking third place was Karen Gotham; fourth place, Ann Connelly; and fifth place Hanna Blystra.
