Tan was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for a detention hearing which is now scheduled for October 19. Tan will remain in jail for the time being. He was accused of shooting and killing his father, Jim Tan inside their Pittsford home in 2015 but murder charges were dropped by the judge. This hearing relates to the murder weapon.
A hearing for Charles Tan scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed.
Last Friday, Tan was arrested on gun charges related to the death of his father.
Tan was accused of shooting and killing Jim Tan inside their Pittsford home in 2015.
Murder charges against Charles Tan in that case were dropped by a judge. But just last month, Tan was indicted on charges of receiving a firearm and ammunition with intent to commit an offense and false statement during purchase of a firearm.
Tan was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday for a detention hearing. That hearing is now scheduled for October 19 at 2 p.m. Tan will remain in jail for the time being.
The new gun charges stem from how prosecutors say Tan obtained the gun used in his father's murder. Prosecutors say Tan attempted to buy a gun at the Cortland Walmart, but the sale was denied. So, instead, prosecutors say he had a friend buy the gun for him.
Tan pleaded not guilty to the charges on Saturday.
