Wednesday, area leaders proclaimed September 30 through October 7 as Community Policing Week.

A series of events will be held to help people learn how to keep children safe and minimize the risk of human trafficking. The Center for Youth says, in 2016 alone, 87 young people in our area were faced with a trafficking situation. The youngest was just 11 years old.

"You need to know that trafficking does not discriminate by city, by town, by suburb," says Rochester City Councilwoman Elaine Spaull, who also leads the Center for Youth. "Every single Monroe County suburb has been involved with trafficking whether it's in hotels. And we have young being trafficked in their own homes."
