As the crisis continues in Puerto Rico, Rochester's Harris Corporation is providing hundreds of radios to help with emergency communications there.

The company says employees volunteered over the weekend to program and package the radios, so they could be used by first responders. The radios are the same ones the military carries into combat.

"Those same radios we are right now training the New York State Police who are going to use those radios to go to Puerto Rico and have communications regardless of network or grid," said Tim Romanelli, Harris Corp. "In any kind of disaster communications is critical our first responders need to be able to communicate with each other."

The Harris Corporation also helped Texas following Hurricane Harvey and helped in Florida after Irma.
