The Gananda Central School District Performing Arts Department will host a free Day of Giving concert and event from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 15 at Gananda High School, 3195 Wiedrick Road, Walworth.
The afternoon will feature performances by the high school’s bands and choruses, individual students and student groups from grades 7-12, as well as guest performers. LBS Highlanders Pipe and Drum will perform along with classical acoustic rock duo Dave Mirabella and Bob Grocki.
The intent of the day is to help the victims of hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, as well as bring attention to the work of the first responders when disasters strike. There will be a presence from the American Red Cross, local police, emergency medical services, fire and state police, along with displays and activities sponsored by school organizations like National Honor Society, Citizens of the World and YESS club.
Food trucks from the surrounding area, including Macarollin’, Midnight Smoking BBQ, J&S Fried Dough, Heintzelman’s BBQ Pit and Kona Ice, will attend the event. Additional activities include face painting, sidewalk chalk, a dunking booth and teachers who volunteered to get a pie in the face.
Admission is free. Money and item donations will go toward the Red Cross.
The event will take place outside in the high school’s rear parking lot off Eddy Road, weather permitting. Bring lawn chairs. If raining, the concert will move into the gymnasium, vendors and displays will set up in the hallways and cafeteria and food trucks will park outside.
