Rochester native Brian Gionta will spend some time on the ice with the Amerks.
In a news release, Rochester Americans General Manager Randy Sexton says Gionta has been "invited to practice with the team for an extended period of time."
Gionta is preparing for the Olympics with the team. While he will practice with the team, it appears Gionta won't suit up with the team for game action.
“We were recently approached by Brian and his agent about him practicing regularly with Rochester as he prepares for international competition,” writes Sexton. "While Brian’s role with the team will be limited to practicing only, we feel this can be a real win-win situation for both he and the Amerks organization.”
The 16-year NHL veteran played for the Sabres, Canadiens, and Devils over the course of his career.
