New York state has created a new program to help veterans become farmers.
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York state has created a new program to help veterans become farmers.
The new program provides financial assistance to former military service members turned farmers. The initiative is related to a broader $1 million grant program for new and early-stage farmers.
Under the initiative, past service members can apply for state funds to help them buy new farm equipment, machinery or supplies or pay for the cost of building or upgrading farm structures.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the investments support one of the state's major economic sectors while giving valuable help to veterans and people who are new to farming.
