Zayden Phillips, the two-year-old boy who police say was shot in the head by his father on Friday, died of his injuries. More charges are likely to follow for 36-year-old Charles T. Phillips who was already facing 1st Degree Assault and 2nd Degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon charges. Phillip is in jail being held without bail due to his two previous felony convictions.

According to police, Zayden was found with a gunshot wound shortly before noon on Friday on Walnut Street. He was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he had been listed as being in guarded condition. According to the criminal complaint, the child was shot in the head.

During the investigation, a handgun was found, leading to the arrest of the 36-year-old Charles T. Phillips. He is now facing 1st Degree Assault and 2nd Degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon charges.

Phillips is being held without bail and has two felony convictions on his record. According to the criminal complaint, Phillips was convicted of attempted robbery in 2009. He was released from parole on Oct. 7, 2017.
