Wayne County Community Endowment recently awarded $80,223 in grants to 20 nonprofit organizations as well as $25,000 to food pantries throughout Wayne County.
The grants were announced at the endowment’s donor and grantee reception at Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club in Sodus Point.
The annual event’s theme, “Harvesting Promise,” recognized the Wayne County friends and neighbors who have invested in the endowment, which was created in 1984 with a portion of the estate of Jeanette “Nettie” Bullis, a successful businesswoman whose family settled in Macedon in the late 1830s.
The 20 grant recipients include American Red Cross, $3,700; Blessings in a Backpack Inc., $3,700; Candy Apple Preschool Center, $3,000; Catholic Charities of Wayne County, $5,000; Cracker Box Palace, $3,700; Family Counseling Service/Finger Lakes, $3,700; Foodlink Inc., $5,000; Home Meal Service Inc., $5,000; Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County Inc., $3,000; Lyons Community Center Inc., $4,000; Lyons Public Library, $2,123; Mercy Flight Central Inc., $500; Montezuma Audubon Center, $3,700; Palmyra Community Center, $5,000; Sodus Bay Historical Society, $3,700; Victim Resource Center of the Finger Lakes Inc., $3,700; village of Clyde, $10,000; Wayne Arc, $3,700; Wayne Behavioral Health Network, $3,000; and Wayne County Rural Ministry Come-Unity Center Inc., $5,000.
Grants went to 23 area food pantries to support operation costs, food purchases and Foodlink memberships: Client Choice Emergency Food Pantry, of Lyons; Clyde United Methodist Church Food Pantry; Come-Unity Center, of Williamson; Covenant Life Fellowship Food Pantry, of Ontario; Daily Bread Food Pantry, of Williamson; Fairville Food Pantry; God’s Store House, of Williamson; Lyons Community Food Pantry; Macedon Food Pantry; Newark Food Closet; North Rose Cougar Cupboard; North Rose Food Pantry; Ontario Food Pantry; Pal-Mac Food Pantry Inc.; Red Creek Community Food Cupboard; Rose Emergency Food Pantry; Savannah Community Food Pantry; Sodus Point United Methodist Church Food Pantry; St. John’s Food Pantry, of Clyde; Tyre Food Pantry; Wayne CAP Success Center, of Lyons; Williamson Food Pantry; and Wolcott Food Pantry.
