The father of a two-year-old Rochester boy who died after being shot was indicted Thursday morning.

Police say Charles Phillips shot his son Zayden last week in their home. Days later, Zayden passed away at Strong Hospital.

Philips was indicted on a felony count. Dozens of family members packed the courtroom for Thursday’s hearing. They declined to speak to the media after the proceedings, but emotions boiled over right as Phillips was taken out of court. Family members stood up and shouted at the suspect, expressing their anger with him.

The case will now move to county court. We'll find out what charges Phillips will face when the grand jury rises. Right now Philips is facing assault and weapons charges, but those were filed before Zayden died. Phillips is still being held in the Monroe County Jail without bail.

Rochester police say the shooting happened Friday in the toddler's home on Walnut Street. The criminal complaint we read says Zayden Phillips was shot in the head. He ended up being rushed to Strong Hospital, but eventually died. Last week, Rochester Police Chief Michael Ciminelli could not say whether the shooting was accidental.
