Peggy Mares, Newark Elks exalted ruler, recently presented a $2,000 check to staff members at Victim Resource Center of the Finger Lakes in Newark.
The money will purchase needed items for VRC’s 2017 Christmas drive, which will benefit families that work with the agency.
Mares successfully applied for an Elks National Foundation Beacon Grant earlier this year. The grant must be used to support an ongoing charitable community project in which lodge members can actively participate. Elks will assist VRC staff in delivering the Christmas toys and surprises to families throughout Wayne, Ontario, Seneca and Yates counties.
VRC is nonprofit domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse service agency. It depends on support from individuals, businesses and organizations to provide resources to victims and children. All services are free.
