The Newark Athletic Hall of Fame will induct its second class of athletes, coaches and supporters of Newark athletics at 6 p.m. on Nov. 18 at Newark Garden Hotel, 125 N. Main St.
The highest honor bestowed upon a Newark Red, this second group selected by the hall of fame’s committee featuring community members and active and retired coaches joins last year’s inaugural class.
The inductees are Ron Ceravolo, Newark basketball coach, Class of 1967; Lenny “Rock” Colavito, football coach, 1973-94; Ralph Nash, athlete, Class of 1969; Newark boys basketball team, 1990-91; LaTanya Parker, athlete, Class of 1999; Charlie Ross, contributor and sports writer, 1950s-80s; Tim Tanea, athlete and coach, Class of 1975; and Mychal Wilkes, athlete, Class of 2003.
“This list of seven individuals and one team all reached the highest levels of their sports and professions as part of the Newark athletic community,” said Chris Corey, director of health, physical education and athletics for Newark Central School District. “This group embodies the spirit of Newark athletics and the expertise, determination and flat-out talent that has existed in this community for 100 years.”
