Vintage Gardens Bed and Breakfast, 310 High St., Newark, recently was acknowledged as a Star of the Industry, and named the 2017 New York Bed-and-Breakfast/Inn of Distinction.
Owners Michael and Kimberlee Meeks received the award from New York State Hospitality and Tourism Association at a recent luncheon.
The award recognizes a New York state B&B/inn property that demonstrates exceptional guest relations, community involvement, architectural excellence and distinction; reflects historical preservation; serves as an ambassador for the B&B segment of the lodging industry; and plays an integral role in promoting the local tourism economy.
Vintage Gardens Bed and Breakfast is located two blocks from the Erie Canal. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is rich in the history of American hybrid roses. Formerly the Jackson and Perkins Rose Company Estate, the historic 1840s Tudor features formal gardens, woodlands and antiques.
“The historic property is impressive, and the Meeks are great stewards of the estate,” said Christine Worth, executive director of the Wayne County Office of Tourism. “Their attention to detail shows in both the gardens and the restoration of the home. I have had plenty of opportunities to observe guest relations at Vintage Gardens, and their hospitality is exceptional.”
Since opening in 2006, Vintage Gardens Bed and Breakfast has received hundreds of complimentary guest reviews with four- to five-star ratings on B&B and travel websites.
The Meeks strive to provide the highest level of hospitality and guest experience while preserving and promoting the historical and environmentally sensitive nature of their property and the region. Michael Meeks and Kimberlee Meeks are committed to sustainability. They grow produce in their garden when possible, or purchase from local farmers and work with the local business community.
“We love what we do, and it is a true honor to be recognized for this prestigious award,” Kimberlee Meeks said.
