Robert Sayer Jr. is in the Monroe County Jail. Fairport Police say he sucker punched Army Veteran Richard Bradt when the two of them were getting gas at this station in Fairport.
News10NBC: "Does it sound like the son you know?"
Robert Sayer Sr., father: "The son I know growing up no."
Robert Sayer Sr. was in court to see his son. Three days before the attack in Fairport this summer, Robert Sayer Jr. was in Charlottesville for the violent protests. Video from one of the marches shows Sayer Jr. in a red hat and a make-shift shield.
His father says he has watched the video and says his son came under the influence of the people around him.
News10NBC: "Did you know he was going to Charlottesville and Syracuse?"
Robert Sayer Sr.: "No. I had no idea he was doing that."
News10NBC: "If what's alleged to have happened, happened that would have played a role?"
Robert Sayer Sr.: "Yes. I truly believe that his participation in Charlottesville lead to this alleged incident."
There was an order of protection signed today for Mr. Bradt, the victim. Robert Sayer Jr.'s trial is scheduled to begin March 26, 2018.
