First Presbyterian Church of Lyons recently baptized four babies in one service. What made this noteworthy, however, was that all were grandchildren of Ron and Jane DeCracker, of Lyons.
The DeCrackers’ four children added 14 grandchildren to the family tree, who then added 16 great-grandchildren. The Rev. Fred Magley performed the baptisms with Ron DeCracker, a church elder, assisting the ceremony.
Ten of the DeCrackers’ grandchildren were baptized in the First Presbyterian Church of Lyons, along with seven great-grandchildren. Church elder Tracy Patanzo assisted when four of their great-grandchildren were baptized in 2016 at Park Presbyterian Church in Newark.
Finnley, Dominic, Leah and Bret were the latest to be baptized.
Finnley is the son of Colin and Alexis Bartkowiak; grandson of Keith and Kimberly Gardner, Kevin McUmber, Kathleen Bartkowiak and Alan and Barb Bartkowiak; great-grandson of Ronald and Jane DeCracker, Sue and Tom McUmber and Robert and Shirley Little; and great-great-grandson of Edna Federer.
Dominic is the son of Philip and Hayley Darcangelis; grandson of Keith and Kimberly Gardner, Robert and Denise Darcangelis and Kevin McUmber; great-grandson of Ronald and Jane DeCracker, Dorothy Poole, Rosalind Darcangelis and Sue and Tom McUmber; and great-great-grandson of Edna Federer.
Leah is the daughter of Kim Whitbeck, granddaughter of Robert and Beth Whitbeck and great-granddaughter of Ronald and Jane DeCracker.
Bret is the son of Eric and Meghan Westfall, grandson of Robert and Beth Whitbeck and Steven and Jane Westfall and great-grandson of Ronald and Jane DeCracker, Art and Sheila Crandon and Roger and Shirley Westfall.
The worship service included a message from Magley titled “Why We Baptize Our Children” and a performance of Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young” by Beth Whitbeck, a relative of all the babies. Attendees then enjoyed a reception in the church’s Social Hall.
Video of the sermon, baptisms and a portion of the song is available on the “First Presbyterian Church of Lyons NY” Facebook page.
