Members from Newark Elks Lodge No. 1249 and Newark Rotary Club recently partnered to distribute dictionaries to 160 third-graders at Kelley School.
Rotary President Kevin Mooney greeted the students, and told them about local and global areas in which the organization has assisted. He said each would receive a dictionary, and discussed how the book could be useful to them for years to come due to the vast amount of information it contained.
Esteemed Leading Knight Susan House told the group how Elks supports projects and sponsors events for area youth, such as Hoop Shoot Competition, scholarships, holiday parties at Alex Eligh Community Center, Scouts and sports programs. Other projects include Flag Day Parade, support of veterans, responding to community requests for assistance, Humane Society and Victim Resource Center.
The assembly ended with each student receiving a new dictionary and a drug awareness bookmark.
