New York State's Attorney General held a Facebook Town Hall Tuesday on protecting students from student loan debt and fraudulent practices by lenders.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said the average student debt for New Yorkers is more than $30,000.

The Democrat said he says he wants to stop predatory for-profit colleges from exploiting students.

"Even as we look at ways to make college more affordable, we are mindful of the fact that a lot of people carrying debt face some abusive practices that we are out to eliminate," Schneiderman said.
