The village of Newark will start upgrading South Main Street from the Main Street Bridge to Rose Drive in spring 2018.
To prepare for this work, village crews will remove 53 trees along South Main Street by March 31, 2018, as required by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for protection of the long-eared bat.
Once the road reconstruction is done, new landscaping will add approximately 54 new trees as outlined in the design plan.
“By the village removing the trees ourselves, we will save money and make it faster for the contractors to get this exciting, much awaited project underway in the spring,” Mayor Jonathan Taylor said.
