An 18-year-old Wolcott man was left with minor scrapes, deputies reported, after his car clipped a telephone pole early Thursday, rolled twice and burst into flames while draped with electrical wires from the downed telephone pole.

Jordan High, of 4590 state Route 89, was traveling north on Wiley Road in the town of Savannah in a 2013 Ford Escape at around 12:11 a.m. when he apparently fell asleep, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported. He then went off the east side of the road and struck the telephone pole.

After the car caught fire in a corn field, High was able to escape. He was checked out by paramedics at the scene and released.
