Students at Wayne Technical and Career Center recently collected over 6,000 pounds of food to support families throughout Wayne County.
The efforts were a collaboration between students and staff at WTCC; Kathy McGonigal, deputy youth director of Wayne County’s Department of Aging and Youth; and area business partners, including Seneca Foods and Motts.
National Guard service members in Geneva delivered four pallets of food items donated by Seneca Foods. Service members included Staff Sgt. Christopher Manns, Sgt. Nicholas Murphy and Pvt. Isaac Arroyo.
Efforts were spearheaded by students in the criminal justice program, taught by Karen Dell, program instructor, and Tracy Kaper, teacher assistant. Students learn the importance of helping others, working together and supporting their communities through this annual event.
The criminal justice program thanks staff and students of participating programs who gave sizable contributions, including auto technology. Conservation instructor Walter Robarge donated his forklift skills, and 2017 WTCC completers Pvt. Faith Martin and Molly Zwick helped with the event.
