Sodus soldier participates in DOD Christmas video

Spc. Nathan Glerum, of Sodus, recently appeared in a video Christmas greeting that was posted on the U.S. Department of Defense’s Video Imagery Information Distribution System.

Glerum is one of 220 soldiers from the New York Army National Guard's 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry and the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team assisting in the training of Ukrainian soldiers at the Yavoriv Combat Training Center as members of the Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine.

The training is designed to reinforce defensive skills of the Ukrainian ground forces in order to increase their capacity for self-defense. The soldiers mobilized in October 2017, and have been deployed to Ukraine since December 2017.

Wayne County soldiers re-enlist with New York Army National Guard

Spc. Christopher Doty, of Ontario, and Staff Sgt. Shane Fachko, of Newark, recently re-enlisted to continue service in the New York Army National Guard.

Both serve with the Headquarters and Service Company, 642nd Support Battalion.

"New Yorkers count on our citizen soldiers to be ready and be there when disaster strikes, and our nation counts on our soldiers when duty calls for overseas service,” Maj. Gen. Anthony German said. “I congratulate our members for choosing to stay in service and striking that balance between military duties, education or employment commitments and family obligations."
