Local soldiers join New York Army National Guard

Pfc. Nathan Sanford, of North Rose; Pvt. Desmond Barber, of Ontario; Pfc. Cody Sgro, of Palmyra; and Pvt. Valerie Lamora, of Wolcott, formally joined their units during New York Army National Guard battle handoff ceremonies in fall 2017 at Patriot Way Armory and Queensbury Readiness Center in Rochester.

Barber joined the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 102nd Military Police Battalion. Lamora serves with the 222nd Military Police Company. Sanford was welcomed to the Company A (Engineer), 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, and Sgro serves with the Headquarters and Services Company, 642nd Support Battalion.

All completed Army basic combat training and advanced individual training. The ceremonies marked their completion of the National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program, which provides new recruits with training, lessons and skills to excel at their initial military training.
