Doctor to appear in court Friday morning

A Wayne County physician is charged with possession, receipt and distribution of child pornography.

Dr. David Blasczak was arraigned Thursday in Federal Court. Federal prosecutors held a press conference Thursday afternoon to report the criminal complaint.

Blasczak is from Newark and worked as a physician and pediatrician at Clyde Family Health Center.

Thursday morning, a search warrant was executed at his home. Agencies discovered devices with thousands of images of child pornography.

Dr. Blasczak denies abusing his patients, but did admit to taking photographs of his patients’ genitals. He told federal agents that he took them for medical research and his own gratification. Dr. Blasczak also said he paid parents of patients on eight different occasions.

Additionally, Blasczak said he engaged in sexually abusive behaviors with minors who stayed at his home during sleepovers with his children.

Homeland Security discovered Blasczak in September 2017 when it was apparent he had made ten purchases from a website in Phoenix, Arizona.

James Kennedy, the US Attorney for the Western District of New York, said, "A physician's Hippocratic Oath is to do no harm and obviously allegations like this, people with access because of their position to child are especially disturbing. We implore the public and ask them that they come forward with any information by contacting HSI Buffalo."

You can contact HSI Buffalo at 716-464-5931 or email hsibuffalotips@ice.dhs.gov with information specific to Dr. Blasczak.

Finger Lakes Health, which operates the Clyde Family Health Center, issued a statement:

"Effective immediately, Dr. David Blasczak's medical staff privileges have been suspended.  We are cooperating fully with the Department of Homeland Security on their investigation."

Blasczak is currently in custody and is scheduled for a court appearance Friday morning.
