Ontario County Sheriff's Department and the humane society are investigating a shooting involving a pet dog that was found with gunshot wounds last week in Hopewell.

The Ontario County Humane Society and the Ontario County Sheriff's Department are searching for the person who shot a dog in Hopewell.

Owners of the pet, named Ellie, let her out at 4:30 p.m. on January 21 on Smith Road.

The dog was taken to Monroe Veterinary Services of Rochester, where she was treated for a hip injury. Ellie's tail had to be amputated.

Investigators said a gunshot wound led to the injuries.
